OMEGA
Project details
About the project
Jarcore Studio was approached to design the Logo and brand of the new radio station OMEGA FM. OMEGA (Ω: capital) is the twenty-fourth and last letter of the Greek alphabet. Its shape resembles an O open at the bottom. Phonetically, it was pronounced as a long O with medium aperture. In modern Greek, it is pronounced as an open O.
As it is the last letter of the alphabet, it can be used to denote the end of something, as opposed to alpha, which symbolizes the beginning. For example, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End” (Revelation 22:13).
Ω represents ohm, the unit of electrical resistance. The OMEGA FM logo design intends to modernize and illustrate the alphabet’s last letter.
There are countless logos, trademarks, and companies that use the Greek letter Ω with its original form and without any distinction between them. The color of the O shape emphasizes the sound of that letter, and the “arms” nod to the original Greek letter, which reinforces the company’s name.
Symbolism
Symbol has primary & additional functions due to its unique shape & color contrast in separating design elements. The O also resembles a head that is reading, which can be interpreted as a book (the Bible). It even resembles an eye that observes from a height, such as the “eye of God.”
The light blue circle (O) is relevant as it resembles a traditional home radio station tuning. The arms resemble other frequency dials.
